i suspended my computer after writing the post. this is the first time since my ubuntu upgrade it did not reboot on wake. i'll see what happens again after putting my computer away for the night.

my problem with resume from suspend is the computer reboots instead of waking. I still cant get an answer either. I thought maybe it was wayland, but i went back to xorg session and the problem persists.
